RISE Collaboration - VA Dallas/Advanced Arm Dynamics
April 25, 2008
Joel Hendrix/RISE Program Director ran into a unique situation while doing a
presentation at the Veterans Hospital last month. Bill Bradford, a veteran that is an upper extremity bi-lateral amputee, wanted to become more involved in our kayaking program. Joel didn't have the answers to what adaptive devices were available. Joel got to work contacting everyone he could to provide a solution.
At first the situation looked bleak but Joel was blessed with some good fortune. He was informed of Advanced Arm Dynamics (AAD) located a mile from the RISE Corporate Offices in Irving. They provide solutions for arm prosthetics. By another stroke of luck, they were already working on a device for a single amputee kayaker out of Missouri, Jimmy Landrum. He was an advanced kayaker before his injury. He just happened to be on his way to Irving to test a device that AAD had developed for him. Joel was able to
meet with all of the interested parties, Bill Bradford, Jimmy Landrum and the entire AAD staff to learn more about what they were doing and see the results first hand. This is another great RISE success story and TEAM RISE is proud of Joel for not giving up until he found the solution, one person at a time if necessary.
If you are an upper extremity amputee that requires an adaptive device, please contact Advanced Arm Dynamics at 214.260.3197 or visit their website,
